Tragic Taft
by befrank
This one came suddenly out of nowhere. You’d think I’d be used to the unexpected by now.
I’m about two hours outside of Los Angeles in the City of Taft. There was a school shooting today and I’m running the night shift SNG live shots.
Felt like I was driving through three climate zones to get there. It was sunny and bright when I started out.
It turned to snow and eventually just miserable rain as I crossed the section of road known as The Grapevine.
We’re using our brand new sat truck. My fellow photographer Joel Fallon and I are both measuring our experience in the truck in hours (and I’m still counting in single digits).
I’ll be spending the night in Taft, but at least I’ll be able to sleep in.
This feels pretty sad, but somehow I can’t really feel what I’ve felt in the past.
I hate this feeling of relief, because people did get hurt. It’s just that as bad as this was, I think we’re all just thankful that it wasn’t as bad as it can be.
